Decommissioning registration

NEA, announced 28 May 2026. Dates and thresholds on this page are sourced to the announcement. Verify against the gazetted regulations before specifying equipment.

The recovery and quarterly records obligations from July 2027. This explainer sets out the mechanism in plain terms so a facilities manager, contractor or specifier can act on it with confidence. Highlight any passage and ask MullerEDGE to go deeper: the assistant answers from this page and cites the source.

What changes

The regulation targets the refrigerant global warming potential, not the equipment class, so the practical test is the charge you specify at commissioning. From 1 July 2027, new centralised commercial refrigeration must use a refrigerant with a GWP no higher than 150.

  • The threshold is a GWP of 150, measured against the gazetted list.
  • It applies to new centralised commercial refrigeration from 1 July 2027.
  • Grace provisions cover plant already contracted before the date.
Check the charge, not the badge. A system marketed as low-GWP can still exceed 150 depending on the blend, so always confirm against the gazetted value.

For most Singapore retail and cold-store applications, a transcritical CO2 (R744) system is the natural-refrigerant route to compliance. The assistant can size a room and recommend a Muller unit from your duty.
